The Story of Tidal Tees
My name is Sydney, I’m 20, and I started Tidal Tees during my senior year of high school (3 years ago) to raise awareness about the many problems facing our ocean! I just completed by Bachelors of Science degree at Stony Brook University in Marine Vertebrate Biology with a minor in Ecosystems and Human Impact. Now, I'm continuing my marine biology journey at Florida Atlantic University where I will be studying Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease (SCTLD) for my Masters of Science degree.
I’ve always loved the ocean (even though I grew up nowhere near it in Western New York) and have wanted to be a marine biologist since the 3rd grade. My favorite marine creatures are sea turtles and whale sharks. I’ve swam with whale sharks at the Georgia Aquarium, trained dolphins in Florida, volunteered at a sea turtle hospital, and conducted underwater coral research in the Cayman Islands.
I have always enjoyed painting/drawing marine life to the point where many people would ask me for prints of my work. Three years ago, I decided I could help make a difference in the world by combining my love of art with my love for the ocean. The feedback so far has been incredible and I’m amazed by how many people are willing to help save our seas. Tidal Tees has sold about $30,000 in apparel, and has 170 ambassadors in 30 states and 18 countries. I hope this company has encouraged you to help our oceans in any way possible, from saying no to using plastic straws, to signing petitions to help pass environmental legislation. Thank you so much for all your support!
